At John Lennon’s House

At John Lennon's House
At John Lennon’s House

Often a book that is of interest to Beatles fans and collectors is not always issued in the desired print format. The following book was written by the Lennon’s Spanish housekeeper who worked for the Lennons during the John Lennon house-husband years after the birth of their son, Sean.

Rosaura Lopez Lorenzo worked for John and Yoko and supplied a few nice stories and photos from the years that very little was known of what was transpiring in the Dakota. Her book was published only in a Spanish print edition. Eventually, the book appeared in English but only in the kindle format. Hope to one day see an English print edition of this book. Rosaura speaks fondly of the Lennons but she is also honest about a few problems that occurred in the household as well during her tenure there.

As you can see from the dates below the Spanish print edition appeared 8 years before the English kindle edition of the book!

Hard to Find Rarity – Julian Lennon Help Yourself

Though not a book these items present an interesting Beatles-related story and collecting rarity.  There were rumors that Julian had consulted with George Harrison about suggestions for the guitar work on the song Saltwater for Julian’s album “Help Yourself.” Unfortunately, that rumor has not been given adequate substantiation, though I believe George receives a thank you note on the credits if memory serves me correctly.

Julian Lennon released the album “Help Yourself album back in 1991 which featured the hit single “Saltwater” which was a hit in both Australia and the UK, but did nothing in the US, largely through poor promotion by his record company in the States

Little is known that in 2 countries, there was a rarity issued of Julian Lennon singing three songs in the Spanish language on the special edition of the album called “Help Yourself.” One country that issued the vinyl LP with the 3 songs in Spanish was Venezuela. The ultra-rare version on cd was issued in Spain.

The cd which was available in Spain with the three Spanish songs is even rarer than the Venezuelan LP with the same contents. I have known many people that live in Spain that have a cd of the album but it is not the version with the 3 songs in their native language. If you find one of these rare CDs you have quite the rarity. I had spent 8 years looking for a copy before a European friend helped me locate a copy for the collection

These are the songs that appear in Spanish on the Venezuelan LP and the special edition of the cd appearing in Spain:

Saltwater = Creo Que Voy A Llorar (Spanish Version)

Maybe I Was Wrong = Es Tarde Ya (Spanish Version)

Take Me Home = Corazón De Palmera (Spanish Version)

Julian Lennon canta tres canciones en español en la edición especial de su álbum llamado “Help Yourself”.

I Drove John Lennon’s Psychedelic Car

John Lennon’s Psychedelic Rolls Royce

John Lennon’s Psychedelic Car – The Rolls Royce

The Rolls Royce Phantom V was one of only 517 cars of this model made. It was a 1964
Mulliner Park War Phantom V, finished in Valentines black, so that everything, apart from
the front radiator, was black. Lennon wanted the radiator to be black too, but Rolls Royce
refused! It was equipped with leather seats, wood trim, cocktail cabinet, writing table and a
portable TV. However, Lennon didn’t know how to drive them and only passed his test in 1965.

He had the car customised at the end of 1965 to be fitted with a double bed, a floating record player (so that the records wouldn’t jump) as well as a car radio-telephone.

After Lennon had used it out in Almeria, Spain, while filming How I Won The War, it needed
a new coat of paint. So, John being John, he commissioned J.P. Fallon Ltd. to create a custom paint job in the style of a gypsy caravan. The car was shipped out to America when he moved there, and regularly loaned it to his friends, like Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones. The car was donated to the Smithsonian Institute in 1977 due to a problem with the IRS. It was sold in 1985 for $2,299,000.

Bill Zygmant Remembers:

“When I photographed Lennon’s psychedelic car, the chauffeur let me have a go, so I drove
Lennon’s car. It was a lovely car. I am the only photographer who managed to photograph the psychedelic caravan, car and the Apple store.”

Best Beatles Discography in the World but Very Rare!!!

The Beatles Covered

Beatles Covered – Reference Book

Beatles reference books have a difficult legacy to live up to. The reason for this observation is as soon as a discography is published, it can become outdated instantly as new releases come out. Unless book addendums or revised editions are issued, the older book is always missing significant detail as time progresses.

One thing that can be said conclusively, though, is that this book can clearly be claimed as the best Beatles discography in the world. The title was written in the English language by German author, Joachim Noske, and published in 2009, by Ajono Books.

Only 500 copies of this massive book were issued with over 14,000 scans of LP’s singles, Ep’s. 78’s picture disks, flexi-disks, and more, featuring discographies from more than 60 countries. Upon release the 500 copies were quickly snapped up by collectors and it is out of print. Copies of the book when they come up for auction command significant high prices!  The author has claimed that he does not envision he will ever reprint the book despite the ever increasing demand of collectors.

The book is over 800 pages long and features full color/colour throughout. It must have been very expensive to produce this book.

Holding On To The Family, Jules!

Fuji Girl by Julian Lennon

Julian Lennon

Though not a book, nor a print item per se, this item which certainly has both Beatle connections and print-related qualities, is a very rare and difficult item to find!

First of all, the Beatles connection is that Julian of course is John Lennon’s son, and being a son of a Beatle gives one the license to post this item here.

In the 80’s, when Julian began his musical career with the excellent Valotte album, little is known that he also signed a contract with Fuji products in Japan to promote some of their products. A rare vinyl promo record was released in Japan only, containing a single track called “Fuji Girl.”

I have followed Julian’s career quite closely over the years but lacked knowledge of this release until I spotted it on an Ebay auction a couple of years ago.  I was both pleased and surprised of learning of its release. This offered further evidence that there are always collecting surprises lurking around out there in Beatle-related circles.

Here are a few photos of my copy of the rare Julian Lennon promo of Fuji Girl!

I have also included a signed print of the cover of his latest LP entitled “Jude.”
