NEW: The Beatles Live at Candlestick Park 1966

The Beatles Live at Candlestick Park by Amelia Davis (Author), Jim Marshall (Photographer), Joel Selvin (Contributor)

Looking forward to this special book of the pictorial record of noted photographer, Jim Marhall’s photographs of the last concert that the Beatles officially played until their rooftop swansong atop their 3 Savile Row Apple headquarters in 1969. The August 1966 Candlestick park concert was to inaugurate the Beatles exclusively (in the studio years) where they would push the boundaries of music beyond belief.

This new book by author and curator of the Marshall photographic estate, Amelia Davis, will be a great treasure for all Beatles fans and collectors to acquire for their collections. I have already pre-ordered my copy as this concert had so many historical implications! The book also features an extra bonus, an essay by Joel Selvin, a well-known American San Francisco -based music critic and author.

Excellent interview with Amelia Davis and Joel Slevin by Steve Marinucci:

AMAZON DESCRIPTION OF THE BOOK:

“Relive The Beatles’ last live public concert through the eyes of the ultimate rock ‘n’ roll photographer Jim Marshall. This deluxe volume collects over 150 photos and proof sheets, half of them never before seen.

Jim Marshall’s photographs of The Beatles’ 1966 concert in San Francisco capture a historic convergence: one of the biggest names in music photography and one of the most beloved bands in history. Specially requested as photographer by The Beatles, Marshall immortalized not only the concert itself, but also intimate moments backstage, such as the musicians meeting the Baez sisters and hanging out in the locker room before the show.

This definitive collection presents the photographs at large scale and in the rich high-contrast tones Marshall favored. An in-depth essay by music historian Joel Selvin brings the moment to life. Whether you were there at Candlestick Park or wish you had been, this is your chance to see The Beatles as you’ve never seen them before.

EXCLUSIVE WINDOW INTO THE CONCERT: Jim Marshall was the only photographer allowed backstage to photograph The Beatles during the Candlestick Park concert. This book brings you into the historic moment and makes you feel like part of the band.

NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN CONTENT: Marshall’s photographs from this event have never been published all together in a single book, and half the images were never published at all. Plus, it includes Marshall’s proof sheets, from which he selected his iconic shots.

PHOTOGRAPHY ICON: Jim Marshall is the great rock ‘n’ roll photographer, as his images of The Beatles prove. In addition to being a legendary artist, he was a peer, colleague, and friend to musicians, and he documented countless seminal musical moments throughout the 1960s and 1970s.

ANNIVERSARY YEAR: August 2026 marks the 60th anniversary of The Beatles’ last live public concert. Celebrate by going back in time through these incredible photographs.”

“Perfect for:

Beatles fans; Jim Marshall fans; Music history buffs; Photographers and photography book collectors; Birthday or any special occasion gift-giving to any devoted Beatlemaniac; Anyone looking for a great present for music lovers

I know that all Beatles fans, Beatle historians and music fans in general, will want to add this book to their collections as this concert was to reflect the line in the song Tomorrow Never Knows that would claim that this was the end of the beginning….”

Best Wishes!

THE MEMOIR OF THELMA (PICKLES) McGOUGH – “FROM ME TO YOU: LIFE AND LOVE WITH THE BEATLES AND BEYOND”

AUGUST 27, 2026 BY THELMA McGOUGH (AUTHOR)

The front cover of the August 2026 book release by Thelma (Pickles) McGough:

Thelma McGough
Thelma McGough

This is a book that I have anxiously anticipated for a considerable amount of time. It promises to most certainly deliver many fascinating stories about postwar Liverpool, the early Beatles, and a lady trying to find her identity along the way during those very hectic times!

AMAZON UK DESCRIPTION OF THE BOOK:

The unmissable memoir of a life at the heart of 60s culture – from Lennon and McCartney, to the Mersey Beat Poets and more.

Who was John Lennon’s first girlfriend? Who is the only woman to have dated Lennon and McCartney? And Tom Wolfe. And Anthony ‘Madchester’ Wilson. And married Roger McGough?

Thelma McGough is all these things – but as her captivating memoir shows, she is far more than that. While those relationships gave her a unique vantage point on the cultural revolution of the swinging sixties, her real journey has always been towards knowing who she really is – as a daughter, a partner, a mother – and crucially, in her own right.

Thelma’s astonishing life is shot through with fierce ambition to become an artist, while navigating incredible love affairs, bearing witness to pop history, raising her sons and tracing the secret at the heart of her family.

Now, she shares her story, along with diary entries, photos and letters, a journey not just from deprived wartime Liverpool through to era-defining moments in pop history, but a story of breaking the confines of class, identity and what it means to find your voice.

This appears like it will be an incredible memoir by Thelma McGough, and I am sure that many others share my interest in reading this book!

An interview conducted by Beatles historian, Mark Lewisohn with Thelma McGough:

A photo of the book from Amazon UK:

These personal memoirs of people that had a role to play in the magical story of the Beatles hold a great fascination for me. Their perceptions of these four personalities who in retrospect seemed destined for a magical journey are valuable tools in understanding the story that over 3000 Beatles books cannot capture in totality the complexity (yet ironically also the simplicity) of what happened!

Thank you, Thelma, for your recollections and your memories!

BACKGROUND INFORMATION ABOUT THE AUTHORS:

About the Authors
PAT GRAHAM, LEEDS (UK)

My interest in all things ‘BEATLES’ started when I was just six years old, in 1964; my sister, who was thirteen at the time, had pestered my mother for us to all go and see The Beatles live in Scarborough, a seaside town in the UK, whilst we were on holiday there in August of that year. Unfortunately, my mother was unable to get tickets for us to see them live, but instead bought us all tickets to see their film, ‘A Hard Days Night’, newly released at the cinema. So, on Sunday the 9th August 1964, whilst the Beatles were performing in the Futurist Theatre on Scarborough seafront, we all went to see the film at the Odeon Cinema; it was the closest I ever got to seeing the Beatles ‘live’. After this first taste of The Beatles, I was hooked! My sister, Trish, was a member of the Official Beatles Fan Club and when she left home in 1969, she gave me a few bits of Beatle memorabilia… and so began my hobby/ passion/ obsession of collecting Beatles memorabilia. My very first ‘piece’ was a Fan Club cloth patch which I am proudly wearing at six years old after my return from holiday in Scarborough… I still have it to this day!

PHIL HARBOUR, LEICESTER (UK)

My father (Harold Harbour) was and still is a huge Beatles fan and passionate about their music, so I guess it has always been a part of my life, possibly even before I was born! I remember singing along to the music as a child with my sister from as young as six years old but as I became a teenager, I started to understand and appreciate just how important the band were, not only musically, but just how groundbreaking they were in so many other ways. And this fascinated me. But it was when the Anthology TV series was released in late 1995 that I became hooked, as it helped to really bring to life just how amazing and pivotal the band were and what an impact they had during that brief eight-year window.

This is when my collecting passion began and I quickly became desperate to own and collect anything Beatle related. Most of my early collecting consisted of small, affordable, modern pieces but I always aspired to own ‘the good stuff’… the items that were actually ‘there’ at the time; owned and loved by those fans who went before me and formed the backdrop to Beatlemania. In the early 2000s, I was able to start adding some original items to my collection, but it wasn’t until I found the Beatlebilia website and then met the founder Pat Graham in 2019, that my passion and collecting of 1960s memorabilia really kicked in. Today, in 2026, I am privileged to be part of the Beatlebilia organisation and more importantly, have a true friend and mentor in Pat.

THE ANIMATED BEATLES BY MATTHEW HAHN

To be issued on September 20, 2026

The Animated Beatles
The Animated Beatles

AMAZON DESCRIPTION OF THE BOOK:

“By 1964, the Beatles had conquered the media of music, radio, television, film, and literature. Little did they expect they were about to dominate animation.

Al Brodax produced The Beatles Cartoon (1965), which was the first time that likenesses of contemporary personalities were cast as stars in an animated television series. (They beat the Three Stooges by a few weeks.) The premiere scored a 51.9 share, which was hitherto unheard of in daytime TV. Brodax followed up in 1968 with Yellow Submarine, another first: “. . . extremely real and enormously famous people were going to be animated into a feature film.” It received rapturous critical notices and audiences flocked to the theaters. Today it is recognized as a classic and an alternative to the Disneyfication that had taken over and stagnated animation.

The Beatles are the most caricatured celebrities of all time, with new fan films coming out daily on YouTube and TikTok. Matthew Hahn, author of The Animated Marx BrothersThe Animated Peter Lorre, and The Animated Universal Classic Monsters, has found hundreds of toons with John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, and also “Fifth Beatles” Brian Epstein, George Martin, Stuart Sutcliffe, Pete Best, and Billy Preston. They have appeared in computer games, music videos, rides, museum exhibits, virtual reality, and AI.

All three surviving Beatles did guest shots on The Simpsons (1989), and John made many posthumous cameos. Other projects include Family Guy (1999), The Powerpuff Girls (1998), Robot Chicken (2005), Celebrity Deathmatch (1998), BoJack Horseman (2014), Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (2007), Minions (2015), Paul McCartney’s Give My Regards to Broad Street (1985), The Beatles Rock Band (2009), unfinished works like the long-gestating remake of Yellow Submarine, and apocryphal ones like the “Lost Beatles Cartoon Episode.” Creators and voice actors affiliated with Beatle-toons include Paul Frees, Bob Godfrey, Matt Groening, Dan Castellaneta, Hank Azaria, Seth MacFarlane, Simon Pegg, Seth Green, Jake Kasdan, Paul Rudd, Jack Black, Jason Schwartzman, Robert Zemeckis, and Cary Elwes.

Illustrated. Includes index, notes, and bibliography. This book should be on the shelf of all animation aficionados, music lovers, classic movie fans, gamers, pop culture enthusiasts, history buffs, and connoisseurs of fun facts.”

BearManor Media Publication date –September 20, 2026

Background information about the author from AMAZON:

Matthew Hahn, author of THE ANIMATED MARX BROTHERS and THE ANIMATED PETER LORRE, is an award-winning animated filmmaker, a published cartoonist, a lifelong rescuer of animals, and a pioneering Maryland craft brewer. He endowed Freedonia/Marxonia, an annual Marx Brothers festival held at State University of New York-Fredonia, with his wife, Cheri. They live outside Washington, DC, with Tonkinese cat Thelma Todd.

A few words from the author about his animated Beatles book:

“This is the first and only book to cover every category of animated Beatles caricature appearances: TV, movies, music video. games, rides, museum exhibits, VG, AI, memes, and fan films. Of course, all three living Beatles appeared on THE SIMPSONS, and voice actors played them on that and other shows. l address unfinished films, such as Zemeckis’ YELLOW SUBMARINE, abandoned projects, and apocryphal ones. Except for the fan films, l believe it is complete. At least no new ones have cropped up since l turned in the book last March.”

BOOK DESCRIPTION:

A book by writer, who is also a photographer, Eddie Michel Azoulay. The Beatles in Denmark follows the band at the first stop of their first world tour in the summer of 1964.

From their arrival in Denmark on 4 June 1964—at the hotel, at the KB Hallen, during the concert, at their departure, and much more. As Ringo was taken ill the day before their departure to Copenhagen, Jimmie Nicol was hired to be behind the drums until Ringo was well enough to continue the 1964 tour.

In addition, the book explores the tough negotiations between Niels Wenkens and Brian Epstein to bring The Beatles to Denmark, youth culture in Denmark in the mid-1960s, Beatlemania, the music, and much more. Through several years of research and interviews with people who were at and around the concert, Eddie Michel portrays the groundbreaking days of June 1964; this thus becomes the complete story of The Beatles’ only visit to Denmark. Moreover, Eddie has gathered memorabilia, newspaper and magazine clippings, ads based on The Beatles as well as ephemera pertaining to the concert; we will showcase these throughout the book.

RARE: THE BEATLES AND BUSINESS, PLUS THE LOST LENNON TAPES AND MORE:

It’s been a while since we last posted a Beatles Hodgepodge post so here is the new one covering The Beatles and Business, plus the rare radio series, Lost Lennon Tapes. If you can remember, Beatles Hodgepodge posts are designed to be a potpourri of Beatles-related print material that may hold some interest to Beatles fans or Beatles collectors. Some items are repeated in the event you may have missed some of the items the first time around!

Hoping you find something of interest in today’s post!!!

BOOKS ABOUT BEATLES BUSINESS DEALINGS:

One of these days I would love to see a detailed analysis of the business dealings of the Beatles from the beginning to the end covering all of the interested parties’ interests and their handling of the Beatles financial affairs. We have seen some wonderful books like the You Never Give Me Your Money book by Peter Doggett and Apple to the Core by Peter McCabe. I would love to see a book from the late Lee and John Eastman’s perspective, from the Klein archives as well. Possibly a thorough analysis of Epstein and Lew Grade’s business dealings with the Beatles, and with Dick James as well. Perhaps include the Michael Jackson estate perspective on things!

How about a perspective from Ringo Starr’s and George Harrison’s legal representatives? I want to see a thorough analysis of what happened and the author should have no pre-conceived agenda before they write the book! However, I am certainly aware that this is wishful thinking on my part as no party would ever want to be seen in a negative light. Would love to hear the details about Apple’s legal hassles with Capitol over the years. I want to see this complete analysis in a single volume. I imagine it will be a very THICK book!

It has been reported that John Lennon detested this book. Don’t know if that is truth or simply rumor. I can only report that I have seen commentary on the internet that this was his feeling about the book!

Peter Doggett’s book about the Beatles business dealings:

Terry Crain’s superb title about the NEMS corporation set up by Brian Epstein:

BEATLES NOVELTY RECORD:

I love collecting Beatles novelty records. Though most novelty records pertaining to the Beatles were issued between 1964-66, I yearn for an authoritative listing of novelty records issued post 1966. I am sure that one day, we will see one issued! This title was from the 70s when the US government was trying to throw John Lennon out of the USA because he was perceived as a political threat to the administration at that time!

The Justice Department, Let John ans Yoko stay in the USA, Single 1972

A McCARTNEY SONG WRITTEN FOR BADFINGER AND COVERED BY A GROUP NAMED THE MAGIC CHRISTIANS WHICH HAD TWO DIFFERENT TITLES:

A MAGIC CHRISTIAN MYSTERY and BEATLE CONNECTIONS GALORE

According to reports, this version of the Paul McCartney song was released around the same time as the Apple Badfinger version. The Magic Christian version was not a hit. Produced by the late keyboardist, Gary Wright, who was to back both George Harrison and Ringo Starr in their solo careers.

Ex-Move guitarist Trevor Burton was supposedly involved with this recording, and speculation abounds that Denny Laine and Steve Gibbons also played a role in the record. I believe Beatles associate; the late Tony Bramwell has mentioned at one time that Denny Laine had a role in this recording. I was able to find a copy of this recording at the DISCOGS site. Some of the 45’s issued had the song title listed as “If You Want It” rather than “Come and Get It.” The first pressings had the publisher listed as Apple. Later copies had the publisher listed as Northern Songs!

Badfinger – Come And Get It – Paul McCartney teaching The Iveys

ONE OF THE GREAT PAUL McCARTNEY MELODIES THAT HE GAVE AWAY:

Paul McCartney’s song catalog is so massive that often wonderful tracks that he has written somehow for whatever reason seem to get lost in the shuffle. Here is one of those tracks recorded by musician John Christie and the song was produced by none other than Dave Clark of the Dave Clark 5. A very nice melody by Paul!

The New Breed – “Just Another Bird-Dog” b/w “You’ll Be There” (1966) Kiowa

Years later Jesse was to join Taj Mahal and was on Walls and Bridges and also performed at the Concert for Bangla Desh among other Beatles-related projects!

KEN MICHAELS AND HIS VERY KIND GESTURE:

Well-known Beatles podcaster and Beatles authority, Ken Michaels, was able to acquire this wonderful item for me featuring the signatures of guitarist Dave Spinozza and Keyboard player and arranger, Ken Ascher, at an event he attended featuring the 2 musicians who featured prominently in the solo career of John Lennon. David Spinozza also performed guitar on Paul McCartney’s RAM album. Kenny Ascher also featured on many other well-known and prominent artists such as Harry Nilsson! Both musicians have a list of accomplishments longer than your arm!

THE LOST LENNON TAPES AND A PROJECT THAT I HOPE THE LENNON ESTATE WILL ONE DAY PURSUE…

The WESTONE ONE RADIO NETWORK IN CONJUNCTION WITH YOKO ONO, ELLIOT MINTZ AND THE LENNON ESTATE

The parties mentioned above collaborated in presenting samples of much of John Lennon’s unreleased material following his tragic passing. There was the following book dealing with that subject. The Lost Lennon Tapes presented 218 episodes of the show over three years. More importantly, what I hope is the end result of all of this is:

John Lennon died tragically at the age of 40 and never got the opportunity to present a completed and full song catalog to the world. In fact, as a result of that there has been a lot of revision lately somehow presenting Mr. Lennon in a secondary primarily negative stature. I do not buy it nor will I ever accept it!

Here is my wish for the future. The Lennon estate should do the same thing that the surviving Beatles did with Free as a Bird, Real Love, and Now and Then. Give John’s remaining unreleased songs and there are many of them a full studio presentation of the numbers using John’s demo vocals and choosing the right musicians to create final studio-like recordings to complete John’s song catalog in a proper manner. I will cite a couple of examples I have seen on YouTube of various people that have attempted to complete some of John’s unreleased songs in a studio like presentation:

India India John Lennon cover with John Lennon singing!

John Lennon – She Is a Friend of Dorothy (Unreleased 1970s Dakota Demo) – Full Band Recreation

John Lennon – Illusions (Not for Love Nor Money) [Fan Arrangement / 2026]

John Lennon – Tennessee (Memories) (Unreleased 1970s Dakota Demo) – Fan made (Not AI)

The Happy Rishikesh song cover with John Lennon Not AI

Sally and Billy-Help me to help myself Music only John Lennon demos. New 2024

John Lennon’s Unreleased ‘Real Life’ Demo – My Full Instrumentation Version

John Lennon & Bob Dylan Mashup – Serve Yourself + Gotta Serve Somebody (Not AI)

Some of these songs are just too good to remain solely in demo form!!! That is my personal opinion. What is your opinion on this subject?

Here are a few other demo numbers on YouTube that deserve a full studio treatment:

John Lennon – Whatever Happened To

John Lennon – Gone from this place (2023 Take 4 Vocal Restored)

John Lennon – Mucho Mungo (Demo) [Restored 2025]

There are many more and I hope the Lennon estate will make the correct decision to finish off these wonderful tracks for true closure on John’s songwriting catalog

Some other possibilities I have seen on YouTube from the Get back Sessions:

The Beatles – Watching Rainbows (Finished)

The Beatles – All I Want Is You (Finished)

The Beatles – Mad Man (Finished)

The possibilities are endless, but they are highly dependent on the right decision being made about the finished product!

ALL 218 EPISODES OF THE LOST LENNON TAPES ON CD: FROM EBAY!

Many years I saw on eBay the entire Lost Lennon Tape series being offered on CD. They had been made from the Radio Transcription disks. Being an archivist, I jumped at the chance and acquired the complete set of programs on cd for my personal collection. Each episode is on an individual CD. The premiere episode was on 3 CDs and was 3 hours long! Even though this may not be an official issue, I treasure this item in my personal archives!

A few sample pages from my cd collection of the great show!

I also spotted the index of the shows being offered by someone on eBay several years ago and added that to my personal archives:

Another index I was able to acquire to properly understand where the material resided by episode!

SAW THIS ITEM ON eBAY!

I seriously doubt that this is an officially authorized product but apparently it features all 218 episodes of the Lost Lennon Tapes on 6 DVDs. Did anyone obtain this for their collection? If this is an authorized product then the people that have the decision-making power to release it should get together and issue it to the public! The best way to counter any unauthorized recordings is to issue them officially. You cut the bootleggers out of the marketplace! That is the strategy that should be used especially in the digital age in which we currently live!

A FABULOUS SERIES OF LET IT BE SESSION BOOKS BY RESEARCHER/ AUTHOR, TERRY WILSON:

One of my favorite series of multiple books dealing with the same subject is the 2 volume book series by Terry Wilson of his research regarding the last “released” Beatles album – LET IT BE. Abbey Road was recorded after but was released before Let It Be!

This 2-book series will provide information to you that will both surprise and astonish you! If you don’t have both volumes in your collection look them up on Amazon. You will be entertained and you will gain a lot of information you may have not been exposed to before!

HOPE YOU ENJOYED TODAY’S HODGEPODGE POST!

BE HEALTHY AND BE HAPPY!
