Dave Morrell – A true Beatles fan and a lover of great music!!!

The author of 4 books that chronicle the life of Dave Morrell in the music industry as a promoter and his many interactions with the Beatles over the years. You will want to compile this entire set of books in your collection to hear the many fascinating stories that Dave has to tell. One of the stories is how he was able to obtain a signed Butcher Cover from John Lennon in the early 70s. He was also able to obtain the signatures of Paul and Ringo on that fabulous collector’s item as well. A while back Dave decided to sell this precious item at auction but he still holds the excellent memories associated with that wonderful item.

His four books are available on both Amazon and Ebay.

Dave Morrell’s Books

Dave Morrell’s signed Butcher cover that he personally received from John Lennon. Later on, both Paul and Ringo signed the LP.

David was to eventually put his very rare treasure up for sale/offers. I undertand that a nice sales price was finally realized !!!

A fascinating article written by Steve Marinucci that deals with a rare cassette tape of George Harrison playing John Lennon songs in India for a small audience. Dave Morrell is one of the few people that has heard this tape when the auction house that had the tape allowed him to listen to it. No one knows where the tape is now or if it ever was sold by the original owner. In either case it makes a fascinating story and Mr. Morrell has many of those type of stories within his four books.

PAUL ON THE RUN: Unheard George Harrison tape has Beatle doing tunes sung by John Lennon (paulontheruntour.blogspot.com)

In conclusion, not only is Dave a very knowledgeable Beatles fan, but he has a great sense of humor, a warm personality, and he is another one of “those fans” that always somehow turned out to be at the right place at the right time.

Luckily he has preserved many of those memories for us all in his 4 books.

KLAUS VOORMANN SIGNED REVOLVER PRINT AND REVOLVER GRAPHIC NOVEL BOOK

KLAUS VOORMANN SIGNED REVOLVER PRINT

There are not too many Beatles record covers that received such high praise as the Klaus Voormann designed cover for the album “Revolver.” This is a special limited edition print produced and signed by Klaus showing an excerpt of his graphic novel book of how the album cover was produced.

The Beatles Cartoons and Yellow Submarine

We do all LIVE in a YELLOW SUBMARINE!!!  Now, what about the Beatles cartoons?

There is some controversy about the quality of the cartoons as it relates to the Beatles legacy, but a completist Beatles collector wants it all, even if it highlights what may not have been the best decision made for their career. The series was groundbreaking though as it was one of the first cartoon series based on real life personalities.

One signed edition of a book that I was missing in the collection until recently was the book written by the late Al Brodax, who was not only responsible for the Beatles animated cartoon series in the mid-sixties, but also the Beatles 3rd feature film, Yellow Submarine. According to many, the Beatles had relatively little direct involvement in the film, yet they came around and did a cameo appearance in the film when they realized how good the final product turned out to be. The following article link suggests that the Beatles had many ideas for the film that were used in the movie but they were not given credit for…

Yellow Submarine – Heinz Edelmann

Would like to close this post with the signature of the man who was primarily responsible for the unique characters created for the Yellow Submarine film, Heinz Edelmann. According to several sources, Heinz did not make a habit of signing material having to do with Yellow Submarine…

“Buzz Me In: Inside the Record Plant Studios”

Buzz Me In: Inside the Record Plant Studios Hardcover – June 17, 2025

by Martin Porter (Author), David Goggin (Author)Thames & Hudson-publisher

As I have stated on numerous occasions in past blog posts, I am also interested in collecting books that may have some type of association or connection to the Beatles or solo Beatles story. This book due in June of 2025 is one such book as it captures many of the stories about the legendary Record Plant studios where many prominent musicians recorded many of their classics. As it relates to this Beatles blog, the Record Plant was one of the favorite recording facilities of John Lennon during the 70s. Wanted to inform you of this June 2025 book release. I am planning on adding this title to my book collection when it is released. To me this book is of interest not only for the possible Lennon stories contained, but additionally, the other major musicians that are discussed as well.

Here is the UK Amazon book description:

In the 1970s, Record Plant Studios was ground zero for the largest boom in record production in music history. With complexes in New York, Los Angeles and Sausalito, and a fleet of remote recording trucks, Record Plant was everywhere there was music. In 1976 alone, the studio produced three number-one albums: Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life, the Eagles’ Hotel California and Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours.
Written by two veteran music journalists, this engrossing book tells the incredible story of the evolution of Record Plant Studios tape by tape. Starting on the westside of New York in 1968 with the recording of Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Ladyland, Record Plant expanded to LA, where Stevie Wonder produced his greatest hits, and then to Sausalito where Sly Stone, Bob Marley and Fleetwood Mac encamped; John Lennon made New York his post-Beatles home, and the Eagles conceived Hotel California while working in LA. Each location showcased the founders’ proven formula of combining state-of-the-art audio, fantasy bedrooms and group jacuzzis, with sex, drugs and celebrity jams.
Largely based on the memoirs and archives of studio co-founder Chris Stone, and supplemented by interviews with over 100 studio employees, music producers and recording artists, this is the untold story, in all its brazen glory, of the recording of classic rock’n’roll as told by the insiders who gladly toiled behind the locked doors of the most prolific recording factory of all time.

The UK and the US links to order the book through Amazon:

Gunter Zint – STAR CLUB PHOTOGRAPHER

A FABULOUS 1998 BOOK OF PHOTOS BY NOTED GERMAN PHOTOGRAPHER GUNTER ZINT

In the last few months I was able to purchase this great photo book which is written in both German and English. Bought this book from noted Beatles collector, Bill Last, and I am very grateful he informed me about this wonderful book. The title features the photography of well-known and celebrated German photographer, Günter Zint!

He was at one-time the official photographer at the legendary Star Club where The Beatles played in 1962!!!

This is one of those books that I find myself scratching my head as to why I had not previously purchased the book before, as it is clearly an excellent photographic record of a bygone and musically exciting era!

The book was issued in 1998 with Thorsten Schmidt as the editor. Strongly recommend this book to those who want to see many of the artists that were plying their trade in Germany along with the Beatles in trying to make a name for themselves!

And to Conclude:

The famous German photographer was also present on the set when John was set to feature his solo appearance in the Dick Lester film, “How I Won the War.”
